| The
Flames came out on fire with chances early and
often but could not convert in the opening moments.
About 7 minutes into the period, the Flames struck
first when Walter Heid scored his team leading
19th goal of the season to put the flames up 1-0.
Shortly after, Brian Corcoran went end-to-end
and slid home one of the nicest goals all season
past Shortell to give the Flames a 2-0 cushion.
Walter
Heid would do it again, this time going end to
end putting the moves on everyone and burying
his second goal of the hockey game. At the end
of the half, the Flames held onto a 3-0 lead going
into the second.
Early
in the second half, Colin Brady scored a fluke
unassisted tally for the War Helmets cutting their
defecit down two. Five minutes later, Bryan Cobb
would convert on a breakaway chance when he deked
Shortell from forehand to backhand to forehand
and sliding home his first of the evening putting
the Flames back infront by three.
The
War Helmets hung around all night, this time when
the War Helmets' Anthony Cordiello scored a soft
goal of his own, bringing the score to 4-2. The
Helmets never got within one during this hockey
game and Walter Heid would make sure of that as
he tallied the Flames 5th goal, completing the
hat-trick en route to a five point night for Walt.
After
Paul Nunamacher made it 5-3, Walt found Bryan
Cobb for his second goal of the evening to put
the Flames ahead 6-3 with just five minutes left
in the contest. With time winding down, Walt again
assisted on a goal, this time with Tim Snyder
on the receiving end when he slid a beautiful
pass on his backhand over to Snyder who went shelf
putting the Flames ahead 7-3.
Just
moments later, Bryan Cobb found Snyder at the
blueline where he turned on the jets, beat the
defenseman on the backhand and went forehand,
waited for Shortell to committ and buried his
second goal in a span of 1:30.
Jimmy
DeMarco was flat out solid all night, stopping
chance after chance, powerplay onslaughts, two-on-one's,
you name it. He also got involved in the scoring
assisting on Walter Heid's second goal.
The
Flames never trailed in this game, and were always
in front by two or more. With the win the Flames
will battle the Wolfpack, who upset the Fat Kid
& Friends, for the Silver Division Championship
next Monday night. Check back for more playoff
updates as the Championship match approaches.
